High Line Drones use a multitude of different drones and equipment in our daily work. And we wanted to make sure we shout out the best of them from time to time on our blog. And the DJI Digital FPV System is the perfect way to start that off!
We upgraded from the traditional "analog" system to the DJI Digital system a couple of months ago just after it was released. The HD feed was a much clearer and colorful feed from the goggles than our analog system, which meant that we could see so much more during our flights.
With our work and videos from our FPV(First-Person-View) drone flights becoming more requested. We were looking for a more reliable way to perform the tasks our customers were asking for. And to be as safe as possible at the same time.
Here is a promo video about the DJI Digital FPV System if you are not too sure what it's all about:
As you can see it's a pretty impressive system! Here are some of the specs:
DJI FPV Goggles Specs:
Weight: Approx. 420 g (headband and antennas included)
Dimensions:
202 × 126 × 110 mm (antennas included)
184 × 122 × 110 mm (antennas excluded)
DJI FPV Air Unit Specs:
Weight
Air Unit (Camera included): 45.8 g
3.9 g (MMCX elbow each)
Dimensions
Air Unit: 44 × 37.8 × 14.4 mm
Camera: 27.4 × 21.1 × 20.1 mm
DJI FPV Remote Controller Specs:
You don't have to purchase the entire kit that includes the DJI Goggles, Air Unit x1 and Remote Controller. You can instead opt for just the Goggles and a single Air Unit and then use your own receiver to control your quads. But purchasing the entire package does mean that you do not have to buy a separate VTX to connect to the controller.
High Line Drones have now converted all our FPV equipment over to the DJI Digital system. You can see an example of one of our flights using the DJI System via our YouTube video below.
The flight you saw above was using our DJI FPV adapted Shendrones Squirt V2. The best way to test this digital system out was to fly in and around the tree canopy. So we took our quad out and sent it up to fly in an environment that would be a true nightmare using an analog system.
Using the DJI digital feed via the goggles we got a crisp and clear picture the entire time. We could see "ghost branches" that may have taken us out before. However this time they were in fine HD quality which made it easier for us to navigate our way though everything we flew around.
As for range we got a pretty decent distance away. And the DJI FPV feed will let you know you are getting a little too far away with something called "Focus Mode." This mode will appear as two long blocks down each side of the video feed that will get blurry and blocky when you start to get out of range. The middle of the feed will remain clear which gives you the ability to turn your quad around and come back safely.
We also modified our custom Nazgul5 to fit the new system which we wrote all about on our previous blogs post here:

We highly recommend the DJI Digital FPV System to anyone interested in FPV quads. It's such an impressive advancement in FPV technology that many of us have been waiting a long time for. And now it's here finally!!
